Urban Force Racing Recaps Season; Pleased with Lensing's Performance- Fact's Backup UFR's Decision to Release Pickens Was Prudent Move
By Steve Pados, Urban Force Media
With the Madison International Speedway's final event of the season curtailed by a day due to a constant rainfall, a decision was made to bring all of the divisions back on Saturday to finish the first annual "Fall Classic." Prior to the rains falling, ABC Supply/Urban Force Racing driving talent Dan Lensing, showed why he is dubbed the "Rocketman" as Lensing went out and set fast time for the event with a lap clocking of 17.602 seconds around the big half-mile speedplant in his Super Late Model and then duplicated the feat in the Madison Late Model with a clocking of 18.189 seconds.
Andrew Morrissey would take the early lead in the Late Model event, with Rich Corso and Jeremy Miller in hot pursuit. Miller would get by the hard running Corso on lap-15 and set his sights on Morrissey. On lap-21, Miller seized the opportunity he was looking for as he dove to the inside of Morrissey and inched his way into the lead. Once in front, Miller drove off to a lead he would have for the remainder of the race. Morrissey would finish second and the fast closing Lensing would settle for third. Zack Riddle and Rich Corso would complete the top five running order.
In the Super Late Model race, Dave Fieler won the 75-lap battle with Nathan Haseleu finishing in the runnerup slot. Mark Eswein was third and Andrew Morrissey and Steve Rubeck completed the top positions. Lensing finished eight in the final rundown of the event.
The event closed out the season for the first year ABC Supply/Urban Force Racing Team. While the team struggled to gain a foothold early in the season with Kiwi Midget Star Michael Pickens at the controls, once the team divested itself of the unadaptable Pickens, the team selected Dan Lensing to fill the seat on a part-time basis. The success of the team with the "Rocketman" Lensing proved to be the icing on the cake as race after race the team worked in unison with the even natured Lensing and reeled off all top fives finishes the remainder of the season to end their first season on a high note. Lensing has been signed by the team for the 2008 season.
Peter Raskovic, who heads up the Urban Force team as Team Manager put the season in perspective.
Raskovic stated, "We learned a great deal from this first year effort. Early in the season we were kept second guessing ourselves with a driver who wanted the car to drive like it was on dirt. None of our set-ups pleased him, and we found ourselves frustrated by his lack of style and his frequent outbursts. We knew we had to make a decision and quickly as the team spirit had reached a low point. We released Pickens to go back and find a suitable dirt ride and we opted to take Dan Lensing up on his offer to help sort the car out." Raskovic later added, "After Dan buckled into the seat, our lives became a much easier everyday task. No longer were we in constant repair of the race car. Now we could focus on the fine tuning of the chassis and the handling package of the car. Dan did a great job and the team rebounded with a stellar performance of their own. I am proud of everyone associated with the Urban Force program."
The Urban Force Team will have the car back at the Beloit Memorial High School as with the season complete, the classroom and shop will be the building stages for next season's program.
