DENE McAllan claimed the 2nd annual Magic Man 34 Speedcar Spectacular

Perth Motorplex PR, Perth Aust. November 9, 2008 - In a dominating performance McAllan won the tribute race to the late, great Michael Figliomeni from inaugural winner Mark Brown (NSW) and Scott Glazebrook and along the way pocketed the $12,000 prize purse.

McAllan was the early leader from Brown and Young but then lost ground in pits bend and a second later Paul Robinson flipped in the same spot and Keith Giles also crashed in what was a disastrous weekend for him.

Giles and the crew had only just repaired the car from an incident earlier in the show.  On the restart the battle was on at the front of the pack with Brown taking the lead and looking strong for his second successive win.

American Davey Ray, who was suffered a broken driveline in an earlier heat race, was forced to  start from seventh in the main event and had moved up to fifth in the first handful of laps.

McAllan was involved in a great duel with Brown and ran a higher line for several laps before taking the lead with 28 laps to go.

Glazebrook and Matt Young were also involved in a good battle for third as they drove different lines, looking for the on-track advantage.

Ray slowly edged his way onto the back of Young and pulled off a massive wheel stand on the approach to the main straight with 18 laps remaining, taking fourth three laps later.

McAllan enjoyed a good buffer over Brown for much of the second part of the race and was very good in lapped traffic.

Brown did try desperately to get his nose underneath McAllan a couple of times but the local driver proved way too good on his home track in the biggest-paying speedcar race in the country.

But it was McAllan's race and he didn't hold back on his excitement when he stepped out of the #21 machine after the gruelling 34-lap encounter.

The event started on the Friday night for the speedcars where they had to qualify and were then seeded into two heats each.

Ray was the quickest in time trials with a 15.840 second lap, well faster than Brown and McAllan who ran 16.318 and 16.429 seconds respectively.

Ray then won the first heat from McAllan and Glazebrook while heat two went to Brown from Rick Geneve and Giles.

Ray's dominance continued in heat three from Geneve and Young.  The final heat went to Brown from Glazebrook and McAllan.

Several cars didn't make it to the second night of racing.  Ross Heywood was one of those after he rode out a big flip in pits bend in the #2 machine.

Neville Lance also had a major blow up in his new motor in the #14 machine.

In the first heat on Saturday night there was contact between front runners Geneve and Giles with Giles' ride turning right and hitting the concrete in the first turn.

Geneve was sent to the rear of the field for his part in the incident.

On the restart Brown had an easy win while there was a good battle for the minor places between Watson and Geneve.

Ray thread the eye through the needle in the first lap of heat six, charging from the rear of the field to second, and not long later was in clear air.

Unfortunately after setting up a commanding lead Ray's blue #71 machine pulled up late the race, handing the lead and the win to McAllan, who won from Glazebrook and Tammy Telenta.
