USAC MIDGETS RETURN TO ANDERSON SUNDAY AFTERNOON

By David Sink, Anderson IN. March 30, 2009 - The air will be filled with the sound of midget racing engines this Sunday afternoon at Anderson Speedway. The Mopar USAC National Midget series will be in town for a 100 lap feature with some of the biggest names in open wheel racing converging on the 1/4 mile high banked asphalt oval.

Midget racing has played an important part in Anderson Speedway history with midget events being showcased here since the track's opening in 1948. The winners list of drivers who have won here reads like a midget hall of fame: Troy Ruttman, A.J. Foyt, Stan Fox, Rich Vogler, Mel Kenyon, Doug Kalitta, and Jack Hewitt to name just a few.

There have been several sanctioning bodies who have officiated midget events here such as: AAA, CORA, WWAR, AAMS, NAMARS, X2RA, and most recently USAC. It is estimated that Sunday afternoon’s event will be the 145th midget event contested at Anderson but only the 30th time the Mopar USAC National series has visited.

2009 will once again be busy for midget racers at Anderson Speedway. In addition to Sunday afternoon's Mopar USAC National event there will also be seven visits by the USAC Regional series and the 2nd Anderson 400 Midget Classic.

Expected entries include: Kevin Swindell, Brad Sweet, Bobby East, Tracy Hines, defending Anderson 400 Midget Classic winner Dakoda Armstrong, and current Mopar USAC National point leader Darren Hagen.

This 100 lap event will be the only time the Mopar USAC National Midget Series will compete for 100 laps on pavement all year. In addition the USAC Kenyon midgets will share Sundays twin midget bill with racing beginning at 2 PM.
