East Wins the ‘Lloyd Ruby Classic’ at Red River Speedway

USAC PR, March 14, 2009 - Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. led all 60 laps in a dominating performance Saturday night, winning the "Allstate Texas Racefest" USAC Mopar National Midget race at Thunder Hill Raceway.

East and his Club Sport/Ford Racing Beast/Esslinger Ford were trailed by new series point leader Darren Hagen, Dakoda Armstrong, Kevin Swindell and Tracy Hines. Hines was the fastest qualifier, while heats went to Chad Boat, Levi Jones and Brad Sweet.

Rain forced cancellation of Friday’s scheduled “Lloyd Ruby Classic” at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The series now prepares for the April 4 "Jegs Crown" Midget Super Nationals at the Columbus (OH) Motor Speedway, where USAC Midget racing dates back to 1957. A total of 22 USAC Midget races have been held at the Columbus oval, with drivers like Rich Vogler, Mel Kenyon, Sleepy Tripp and most recently Bryan Clauson and Bobby Santos III scoring wins.

Hagen’s point lead stands at 20 over Brad Sweet entering the Columbus race.
