Last night had a bit of everything, excitement drama, and of course plenty of great racing in the showdown of who would be KING.
For the fourth year in a row The “ICE MAN” Scott Glazebrook reigned supreme with a drive from position eight to win the 15-lap feature and take the crown of King of Kwinana. “I just want to thank my whole team for the effort they always put in, we went pretty well tonight. I want to thank my fans that support me and what happened in the second race sorry about that”. “Thanks to the continued awesome support my sponsors give me. Also congratulations to Dene and Todd (Waddell) it’s great to have Dene back here competing”. Said Glazebrook.
Dynamite Dene McAllen also had a great weekend coming up short in the feature race finally getting through to second after fighting his way past Dean Merrylees. “It feels like I’m playing in my sandpit when I was 5years old when I come back here it’s great, congratulations to Scott he got away from me. I would really like to thank Kevin Small from GKR transport without his support this year we wouldn’t have been able to do what we have done so far without them”. Said a very happy McAllen.
McAllen’s return to the Motorplex after a significant absence due to racing commitments on the East Coast was spectacular in more ways than one. A large rock/boulder shot up from a car in front hitting McAllen in the face and crashing into the dash of his car breaking gauges and his helmet visor. “The rock hit me so hard I think it knock me out for a bit and when I realized what had happened I had traveled half a lap. It hit hard that’s for sure”.
Third place over the weekend was the ever-consistent Todd Waddell who continues to impress with his continual maturing race-craft. “It was a tough race and when you give away horse power to these guys it’s hard to make up for but we got the job done and ran a good third”. Said Waddell.
Tom Watson Snr missed the setup and chased the car all night, managing two fifths and a sixth but still got him to fourth overall.
A number of drivers had good runs throughout the weekend one driver who did impress in the feature was Dean Merrylees who actually finished third in the feature race but had only accumulated enough points over the weekend to finish in tenth place for the king of Kwinana.
Glen Riseley is another driver who has performed well this weekend; with him family based team who are all on a steep learning curve when it comes to set-ups did well.
Big Rev Nev returned after the previous nights engine problem and looked good in heat one moving from position nine to second by the race end. He backed it up with a strong win in heat two and was expected to be a hot contender but a mechanical gremlin continues to invade the No14. And came away with a 7th in the feature and fifth overall.
Jim Flemings weekend ended during heat two on Saturday when there was contact between Glazebrook and Fleming with Fleming ending in the wall and a car that was severely damaged.
Steven Henderson Paul Harris and Dale Alfirevich were locked in battle all weekend and it was Alfirevich that won that battle.
The Bart Man Bart Curnow must be admired for his patience whilst the team is still trying to fix a cooling system problem that has dogged them from the start of the season. “Look Bart has been fantastic throughout this tough time we also had an oil seal let go as well just to try us a bit more”. Said Team Visa owner and father of Bart, Lex Curnow.
