Brea Lopez Motorsports Set For South Sound Opener

By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media April 10, 2008 - Nineteen year old Midget driving star Brea Lopez and her Brea Lopez Motorsports Team will make their first start of the 2008 racing season when the Washington Midget Racing Association opens it's season on Saturday, April 12th at the lightning fast 3/8 mile South Sound Speedway located in Rochester, Washington. The event will mark the 4th season the talented teenager will be doing duty with the long-standing racing association and Lopez is looking forward to a great season season that can hopefully springboard her into landing a ride in a pavement Late Model division or Truck Series ride in the future. Lopez had an outstanding year in 2007 as she drove to a third place finish in the Association's final point standings, a big improvement from her ninth place performance in 2006. Lopez also foundher way into victory lane year last year when she took advantage of an open date in her WMRA schedule to race with the Bay Cities Racing Assocation. The team made the tow to the Redwood Acres Raceway in California and Lopez was brilliant in capturing her lone win of the season.

Miss Lopez will once again rest her fortunes on the newly refurbished 2006 Beast Chassied/Esslinger powered Midget that is Crewed by her grandfather, the legendary West Coast racer, Dan Press. While the team had hoped to travel to Shasta Raceway last month to shake down the car, a couple of minor details remained to be completed and the team decided to stay in the shop and take their time with the car rather than do a rush job to finish it. The team did travel to South Sound last week to take part in a season preview test session the track put on, and although the car was fast, Miss Lopez felt a few tweaks here and there will make the car better come race time this weekend.

While the Lopez Team has high hopes to make a serious run for the Series Championship this year, the deep talent pool within the driving ranks will prove to make for an interesting battle once the season begins. The 2007 racing season was a very successful one for the spirited Lopez, but with each new racing season, the challenges become greater as well. The Lopez Team is still seeking additional sponsorship partners for the 2008 racing season to assist with the larger travel schedule the series has embarked on with a couple of shows being scheduled across the border into Canada. Working with their limited budget may hinder the Lopez and Company as the season progresses. Lopez, who is hoping to land a Late Model ride in the future, will continue to race the Midgets until something solid comes along. Plans are in the formative stages to have Lopez do some testing in a Late Model racer as well as hone her pavement skills at the Finish Line Racing School in Florida.

Along with her grandparents, crewman Joe Hayes and Brandon Kadwell completes the makeup of the Brea Lopez Motorsports team.

Brea Lopez would like to thank all of her sponsors and supporters for their efforts in helping the team prepare for the 2008 racing season. Steve Forler Trucking, Redline Oil, Ridgecrest Homes, Hooker Harness, Bell Helmets, Finish Line Racing Equipment, Keizer Wheels, Loma Hair Products, DPI, Airgas, Nex-Gen Motorsports, and GA Motorsports Media will all play a major role in the success of the team this coming year.
